Gackt - Creative Commons license YT[edit]

Hello Jeff, can you please review the licensing of several images I recently uploaded of Japanese singer-songwriter Gackt - just in case something's wrong with them, I can be sure we have and can use them. All of them were from YouTube videos under a CC license, but known author (one of which is publishing house of his books; video reporter from Thailand; person from concert audience), live interviews or performances, source is linked and timestamp provided for all of them. They are screenshots by me and in a few occassions are cropped. To take into consideration, for many years was hard to find images with CC license with a usual hairstyle, hair color etc. of the person, those used until now gave a bit wrong impression of the person so these new ones mean a lot (including having examples of him performing live). The images are:

@Miki Filigranski: I reviewed all of them. All were successful except the last one, File:Gackt performing on Last Moon tour 2016.png. That image is a photo from "GACKTの勝ち方特装版朗読CD試聴動画vol.110" AKA "GACKT's How to Win Special Edition Recitation CD Trial Video vol.110"; we need permission from the photographer and the CD publisher via VRT. I also uploaded five videos in Category:Gackt.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:31, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks a lot, that's great! As for the image in question, it is not related to the CD in question, but found its source - it is a zoomed gray derivation of this image in colour which is taken from this DVD. I doubt there's known photographer, all product images seem like screenshots of DVD's HD video. If the book publishing house can use it and publish it in their YT CC licensed video doesn't it mean others can use all the content of the video? The image is basically a lower resolution, lower-different colour etc. which per en:WP:NFCCP is "not used in a manner that is likely to replace the original market role of the original copyrighted material", it has "Minimal usage" also there's "No free equivalent" - and would be kinda useful to have an image with encyclopedic purpose of showing his unique Visualive concert style. Hence if it is not suitable for Wikimedia Commons, as NFCCP isn't Commons policy, could it be uploaded at English Wikipedia?--Miki Filigranski (talk) 16:25, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Miki Filigranski: You're welcome. There is still a videographer. You may go ahead and copy it to enwiki, and then tag it for deletion here.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:18, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Gumruch: FYI.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Gumruch: as you made a revert, just for clarification, is everything alright besides need of a review of confirmation?--Miki Filigranski (talk) 22:56, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Miki Filigranski: I did not yet know the source of the image, beyond YouTube. Once you have it on enwiki, I plan to start a DR if you don't.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:08, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For the original source see DVD link. Ok.--Miki Filigranski (talk) 00:01, 10 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've decided not to upload it on English Wikipedia and removed it from the article as well. Please continue with DR. All the best, thanks.--Miki Filigranski (talk) 15:34, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Miki Filigranski: ✓ Done, please see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Gackt performing on Last Moon tour 2016.png.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:12, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As a separate issue, you can delete File:Gackt at Tokyo International Fourm Hall in 2009.JPG as it wasn't taken with a photo camera or phone camera. It is a bad screenshot of some copyrighted video. Unofficial/bootleg photography in Japan and Gackt's concerts during a performance is not allowed and/or there's a strict policy.--Miki Filigranski (talk) 16:25, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Miki Filigranski: I tagged it with {{Dw no source since}} for you and ShurinCC.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help me![edit]

Hi, could you please take a look at File:Ekushey Wiki gathering in Dhaka, 2023.jpg. There's no indication that the mentioned user gave permission to upload this file under that specific license. I think a File permission tag should be placed there. If you agree with me could you please put the tag there by yourself. I don't want to do it myself because the uploader of the file seems to be offended by my previous exchange with him. And I am afraid that if I put a file permission tag on his another upload he might get the wrong idea that I am trying to harras him. Thank you.

@Syrus257: Hi, and welcome. I'm sure Yahya and NahidSultan know what they are doing. Yahya even added Category:Photographs by Yahya in special:diff/734932548.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:09, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for the ping. I captured the image using NahidSultan's phone. I don't have any issues regarding the permissions mentioned in the image. Since we are both Wikimedians, and I was notified during the upload, I believe there is no need to send permission to VRT. —Yahya (talkcontribs.) 17:34, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yahya: You're welcome, and thanks for the explanation.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:15, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Syrus257: What brought this photo to your attention?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:16, 13 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
NahidSultan reviewed two of his own uploads. I was checking if he had done the same with his other files. My first message to him looks rude and I admit it. I was little surprised that an administrator reviewed his own uploads. But I should have been more careful with the message. And thank you @Yahya for clarifying. Syrus257 (talk) 10:11, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Syrus257: Thanks. What brought you to my user talk page? Why do you sometimes remove the Flickr Photo ID from filenames when transferring from Flickr?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:09, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nothing specific. I was going through help center archive. I guess you are active in helping new contributors. Besides your username is easy to remember. I don't know. I hope I wasn't bothering you. And I had to change the orginal titles of some images while transferring them here because there were some other images existed with the same title. I did so just adding some random number after the title. Should I stop doing that? Syrus257 (talk) 11:45, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Syrus257: Thanks. For each image, if another image exists with the same title, that means it has already been uploaded. Please do not upload duplicates.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 11:50, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for the advice. I always try to be careful about duplicates. Please let me know if you notice any unintentional upload of duplicate images by me. Syrus257 (talk) 11:58, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Syrus257: You're welcome.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:05, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re your replacement request for No facebook.png/svg[edit]

I declined this request because User:CommonsDelinker/commands/filemovers "is only for requests related to renamed files. Other, potentially controversial requests must be proposed at User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands." Also, CommonsDelinker will not replace non-SVG files to SVGs anyways. Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 20:56, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Mdaniels5757: Thanks for letting me know. Would you be so kind as to comment at COM:FILTERT#Report by Rainbowlack, perhaps with some background?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:04, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh dear, oh dear, was that your decision Jeff? Sorry to read this. Lotje (talk) 12:50, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Lotje: No. RL issues delayed my participation in VRTS tickets for some months. Then GoDaddy switched my domains' email to Microsoft 365, and in doing so took away my catchall capability. Then, after a month, Microsoft wanted to hold my one remaining email address hostage for an obscene amount of money every month, and refused to let me use catchall. When I changed my email address in VRTS, no one told me I would have to change it in vrtwiki, so my failure to do that is partially my fault. My vrtwiki email address was still using an address on one of those domains, so when Krd's bot reminded me via email only of my inactivity (despite all I do on COM:VN and elsewhere here), I didn't get the reminder. A month later, Krd asked the Stewards to remove my permission, and one of them complied. My appeals to Krd have so far been denied.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:09, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My guess is that Krd firstly wants to check what happened to the messages sent to that former email address. Maybe jeff_G.@wikimedia.org could be the solution? Lotje (talk) 13:15, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You could always check Wikipedia Christmas wishes ... now is that time of the year ? Lotje (talk) 13:23, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Lotje: The email message should have bounced, and Krd should have notified me another way. As far as I know, the WMF doesn't just hand out email access like candy. Also, Gmail says that address is not valid because of the dot, which is ridiculous. In addition, Krd wrote that he had turned off notifications for mentions.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:24, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There was a lotj@wikimedia.org at the time, maybe that one has not been used and you could have it? I try never to complicate life, too stressy, to brain consuming. Hence my efforts to be helpful whereever I can. Lotje (talk) 13:27, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh dear, ohq dear, it is getting weird now. Upon checking my emai account on gmail, I noticed one was sent erroneously to me. Whome to contact to fix this? Don't even know if I could mention the names of the sender here in order to solve this. Thanks for your help and guidance Jeff, if at all possible. Lotje (talk) 13:34, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Lotje: My email here now goes to my working gmail account, you can send me a copy there with full Internet headers and maybe I can help. See also these edits. I wrote that publicly because Special:EmailUser/Lotje says "This user has chosen not to receive email from other users."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:44, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
FYI, forwarding on Gmail is suboptimal, sadly there is no option to include the full Internet headers.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:03, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So sorry Jeff, fixed :-) Lotje (talk) 14:09, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Deletion requests[edit]

Hi Jeff,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the inconvenients I have caused with my deletion requests.

The reason is simply that I have been inactive on WP/Commons for over 13 years now. Back in 2010 and as far as I remember, the policy was that a user could request to delete his own user or discussion page at any time. Times have changed since then and now in 2023 I decided that I wouldn't like any information about myself to be available on the internet, not even in the editing history of my user page.

Could you just confirm for me in order to avoid further inconvenients: Is {{Speedydelete}} the template to use in this case? Do I have to specify my reasons if this template is placed on my own user/user talk?

Thank you and sorry again! Best wishes, --Strommops 20:28, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Strommops: The current best tag is {{SD|U1}}, but I oppose use of it for user talk pages on principle. However, you may also want to visit m:RTV#How to request a vanishing and read carefully.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 03:30, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
